Today we had our first what is it ? bags. Alyssa, Connor and Grace took the bags home last night. They chose a mystery object to go in the bag and thought of a good clue to tell the class so that we could guess what was in the bag. The class asked questions to find out about what was in the bag. It was tricky. We had to listen carefully to the clue and to the questions other people asked. We guessed what was in Grace's and Connor's bag but we couldn't work out what was in Alyssa 's bag.Check out our photo to see what was in the bags.

Story writing

We have been working hard to write longer and more detailed stories. We can now write many fast words but often we want to write words that we don't yet know how to spell. What do you think we do then?

Learning about the Perimeter - slideshow dvd

Can you explain what a perimeter is? We measured the perimeter of a shape using a pipe cleaner and then we measured the perimeter of the playground by counting our strides. It was 100 strides exactly around the first netball court for Sandi. It must have been over 100 strides for the children in Tohora.

Today we started taking "head shots" of our buddies. A head shot photo shows the face/head,neck and shoulders of a person. It was hard for today's shutterbugs as they tried to take the first photos.
Our photos should show all of someone's head/face, their neck and just the top of their shoulders.We didn't quite manage it today but we will be better tomorrow.

We are learning how to measure an object when it is curved. We had a boy/girl competition to see who could make the longest curved snake. Once we had made the snakes we placed wool along them and then
compared the length of the pieces of wool once they had been stretched out.

Production - slideshow with music

Here are some more photos of Tohora and our buddy class practising for the Production. The warm up exercise was forming a knot in a group by crossing hands and then undoing the knot without letting go of the grip. We then formed the shape of different buildings in Christchurch such as the Cathedral.

Today we went to the hall for a surprise. When we got there we saw lots of drums. We felt happy, surprised and excited. We all played a drum. The man taught us a rhythm and we played it back to him. We loved the sound and learning the different rhythms. We loved playing the drums. We learnt to clap rhythms too. Then we danced. It was fun. Thank you for teaching us Rhythm Interactive. We hope we can do that again.

Wow! Possum's view photos are so tricky. We take quite a while everyday to work out where the photos were taken.

Arisha said, "I took it with the camera against the door so its a possum's view.

A really interesting day today. We decided that possum's view photos can be mysterious. It can be hard to tell what the photo is of.

Levana held the camera up and against something so she knew her photo was a possum's view.Do you know where she took her photo?

Tom held the camera against the window frame and pointed it up before he took his photo. Do you know where he took his photo?

The whole class wanted the third photo on the blog because we all wondered how Tom had taken it. So we went out into the corridor and he showed us how he took it. We think possum's view photos show us a different view of the world.

Fletcher chose this photo because he held the camera against the top of the concrete and upside down. It is a very interesting shot don't you think? I think he thought he was a different sort of creature- one that hangs upside down!

Mia chose the photo of the purple flowers which bees can go into because it is a good giant's view photo and she likes the colour purple. We are learning to measure. We discovered our height is the same length as as our reach. We also measured our head, waist and foot circumference and tried to find something shorter and longer in the classroom.

Here are our last three eye-level photos. Today we talked about the rule of thirds after Sonita made a comment about it on our blog yesterday. We googled it and watched a video that explained it. That has given us something else to think about now. We thought that the photo of Alyssa nearly demonstrates the rule of thirds.

Gaby said, " We can see two scooters and two shadows. You can see me taking the picture. "

Alyssa said, " They look like they are stuck together."

Sandi said, " We are studying shadows and this shows two really interesting shadows."

Tyrell said," I got his whole body and the photo is focused because he was going down the slide when I took the photo."

Here is a photo from our next shutterbug Tom. He went out with Connor and took a selection of photos which we all discussed to see if they were focussed and interesting. The camera had to be on the standard photo setting.

Tom said," The tunnel fills the frame and he is looking at the camera."

Atlanta said, " I like the clouds and tree and two little triangles in the corner of the photo. It is a clear photo."
